The extra USB ports were a nice addition for those that cannot spare on on the 360 for the external drive.

More importantly, I think, it gave some inside info about ICT, HDCP, and whether or not one will be able to pass a HD source over non-HDMI cables. The info makes one believe that the studios will not implement such protection.

As for the drive itself, it is very affordable and a good way to get into the next gen disc war. No 1080p (because of the 360's cur...

Nice graphics, but where's the fun? After a few minutes these types of games seem to get old.

Amazon is not accepting preorders for the Wii (at least not anymore). Too bad beacuse that would have been great news otherwise.

Because the HDMI 1.3 thing has been brought up in someone's comment, I thought that I might as well post this here(it is a HDMI topic anyway)

The first problem with HDMI 1.3 is that no current player supports 1.3 with the PS3 most likely being the first blu-ray player to have such a technology. The second problem is that you also have to have an HDMI 1.3 compliant input as well. So, if your TV does not have 1.3 compliant hardware, the source does not matter (1.1, 1.2, or 1.3) b...

Krimson, you said:
"HDMI is Digital. No signal loss."

That is not entirely accurate. Although it is possible for a $20 HDMI cable to be equal to a $100 monster one, there still are differences from one cable to another. The saying, "either the entire signal is passed through or none of it is," is not correct all the time. Some worse quality digital cables can produce pixelation and macroblocking.

The truth is, as EMU indicated, is that mo...

I thought that all of this was already discussed in this earler news post:
http://www.news4gamers.com/...
And again, nothing has changed. EMU, you were right then and are still right now. Kewlkat007, I guess that our discussions did not pursuade you. I'm terribly sorry for you that you think that way as it really oculd save you some money.

Let me post again what I said earlier: ...

To 3.1:

Allow me to change my argument a bit then. I said:

"People think games and they think PlayStation. All parents need to know is PS2 now, PS3 next."

I would like to say:
"MOST PARENTS think games and they think PS. All they need to know is PS2 now, PS3 next."

I will grant you that not all people think that way, but remember that PS had 70% of the market last generation. I gather from that, then, the idea th...

I thought that the timeline did a good job of summing up all the problems with Sony in the last 1.5 years or so.

What I have to disagree with is that it says the PS3 is doomed. Here is why I think that the PS3 will be a success.

1. The brand name. People think games and they think PlayStation. All parents need to know is PS2 now, PS3 next. They don't care whats inside it or about specs. Frankly, they probably don't even know what a blu-ray drive is. Knowin...

It reminds me of the PS1 one CD cases with the PS logo on the side as opposed to the PS2 cases where the PS logo is on the top of the box.

"If everyone could buy $20 Cable then the other highpriced versions would never sell. I sure there is a reason its $20 and not $70+."

It is a bit hard to understand, isn't it? I understand where you are coming from. But trust me. You can find around the net where people have done mathematical tests that show just exactly what percentage of how much of the signal actually is received by the TV through the monster cable versus the monoprice cables, for example.

Aside from combining 5 component cables into one, HDMI basically improves picture and audio quality. Analog cables often provide a blurry image as some note when one's computer monitor is connected via VGA. I know when I changed from VGA to DVI, the text on my computer screen was much clearer. As for sound, HDMI passes through higher quality audio (since the PS3 will do HDMI 1.3, then complete uncompressed 7.1 channels will be passed through) whereas standard left and right audio cables ar...

1080p is still possible on the lower end PS3. Please read my earler post on it, post #17.

7121d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Everyone knew this already. It is not that the PS3 can only output 1080p over HDMI - it still can over component. The thing is that if Hollywood decides to implement copy protection on blu-ray and HD-DVD discs, the HD signal can only be passed through on HDCP compliant cables and hardware which is namely HDMI (and DVI in some cases).

So, the 360 in fact is in the same boat with the lower end PS3 as the HD-DVD add-on does not even have a HDMI connector.

Simply p...

Everyone should read posts 22-24.5.

EMU is exactly correct. HDMI cables DO NOT cost $100. I have seen monster cables at Circuit City for $120 of which were listed at 1080i for maximum resolution. The truth is, as EMU indicated, is that monoprice.com IS THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN THE DIGITAL WORLD. Any audio/videophile knows this. (Really, check some of the AV forums out there. It really is known as “the best kept secret in the digital world.”

I would like pick out some of the more enlightening points people have made in this discussion and comment on them.

From Phytonadione:
"I have to give Sony credit for trying to make the PS3 "future-proof". Yeah, so what if the masses will only be adopting 720p capable tvs (and that you're too poor to afford a 1080p tv)? I'm not in that group, I can afford (and currently own a 72" 1080p DLP $3999) a 1080p tv and 7.1 surround system. It's not like Sony ...

The key part of that article I think was finding a TV with an optimized game mode as is the easiest method to avoid lag compared to the other workarounds given in the article.

Some Samsung TVs, for example, now have this feature like the 4692D (1366x768). The upcoming 1080p Sammy LCDs, the 4095D/4695D along with the 4096D/4696D also have the game mode option which reduces the response time of the TV and turns off the Image Enhancement control. Just some information to gamers...

I agree with much of what you said, but Sony as a company is actually larger than Microsoft. So, that $38 billion isn't as high as one would think.

I like how I got a "disagree" for my last question. I'm not mad, it's just that it makes no sense. There was nothing to agree or disagree about it. But thanks to the person who gave me a "disagree" but did not let me know if he was able to get the PS3 feed to work or not. Way to be entirely useless to this whole process of trying to make the site better. So back to the original RSS problem...(Another disagree please?)

First, why did they put this under the Playstation 3 category? It seems to be only for the 360 according to the article. Does anyone know if it is not an exclusive?

Back to the game. How long has it been since I fired up that Genesis and became one with that 2-D game? I remember trying to complete the boards in seconds. trying to break previous records. Now it seems as if we have that back in the game, but with a few more features like plot, graphics (obviously, right?) and ...
